Research Abstract	重点領域研究「ゲノム情報」総括班では、6月22日と3月12日に総括班会議を開催し、本領域最終年度の研究計画の取りまとめと調整、研究成果の評価を行った。これまで5年間定期的に行ってきた公開行事を継続し、まず第5図ゲノム情報チュートリアルを7月5〜8日に神戸市三田で開催した。今年は「ゲノムと医学」と題したチュートリアルで、ゲノム情報と医学との接点を求め、また例年通り班員・班友による研究成果発表会を行った。第6回ゲノム情報ワークショップは12月11〜12日にパシフィコ横浜会議センターで開催し、招待講演5件、口頭発表9件、ポスター発表29件、ワークステーション発表12件、それに企業展示11件が行われた。参加者は275名であった。第18回日本分子生物学会年会では本領域関連のシンポジウム「情報生物学の展開」が12月6日に名古屋で開かれ、その際マッキントッシュを自由端末として年会参加者に提供した。第33回日本生物物理学会年会では例年通り「ゲノム情報」のセッションが、9月24日に北海道で行われた。ゲノムネットデータベースサービスは世界70ヵ国以上から月間40万件も利用されるようになり、その利用法を図書として出版する予定である。その他、本領域研究の内容を紹介する単行本や学会誌特集の企画・執筆も行った。基礎研究については来年度に成果とりまとめを行う予定である。ゲノム情報ニュースは年4回発行し、それぞれ約2000人に配布した。
