Research Abstract	重点領域の発足に向けて、「細胞膜から核へのインフォメーションフローの機構」に関連する分野の調査研究を分担して行った。特に、研究対象としてどのような実験系を選ぶべきか、また、有効な研究手法は何かとしう点に重点を置いて、種々の調査と討論を行った。その結果、脳神経系を対象とすることが重要かつ適切であるとの意見の一致をみた。そのための有用な研究手法について調査を行い、種々のイメージング生理学の手法(PET、光学顕微鏡等を含む)に分子生物学・生化学・生物物理学的手法を総合的に用いることが重要であるとの結論を得た。これらの手法を総合的に用いることにより、脳の高次機能の中の「連合学習」については、そのメカニズムを細胞レベルおよび分子レベルから現在研究することが可能であるとの結論に達した。そこで、川合述史教授(自治医科大学医学部生理学教室)を紋友とし、更に綿密な調査研究を行った。平成5年1月28日-2月1日にかけて、福岡市の正晃本社ビルディング会議室及び九州大学薬学部において班会議を開催した。この間、1月29-31日には、若手・中堅の脳神経科学者を招いて、「脳機能調節機構研究の幹前線」と題するシンポジウムを開催した。これらの活動の結果、軟体動物から高等哺乳動物にまでわたる動物種に共通の連合学習のメカニズムの存在が予測されることから、これらの動物種を対象として比較分子生物学・生理学的手法により連合学習のメカニズムの探究が可能であることが浮き彫りにされた。以上の結果に基づき、川合述史班友、吉岡亨班員、工藤佳久班員、及び、桐野豊(代表者)を中心に、更に綿密な研究プロジェクトを策定し、「連合学習の比較分子生物学」と題する重点領域申請書(代表者川合述史自治医科大学教授)を作成し、2月末に文部省に提出した。
