Research Abstract

This investigation is of one of the applications of optogalvanic laser spectroscopy and of laser Stark spectroscopy to the cell biology.
Under strong electric field, high lying excited level like Rydberg level is dispersed into several levels. If an excitation from a metastable state to one of these dispersed levels is carried out by tunable laser pumping, various emission spectra i different wavelength would be observed.
Using these spectroscopy, one can expect to give cells a desirable change and observe a specific fluorescence emission for detection of specific cell or for therapy of cancer cells.
Our aim has been in getting tunable wavelength from He-Cd^+ white-light laser by this means and apply it to cancer treatment by cutting the cancer gene only. Applying such laser spectroscopy, it would be expected that accurater detection of cells than that be cell sorter which uses scattering pattern can be done.
For getting final goal on this subject, however, several years are still necessary since we have no direct experimental system for cell treatment. Final check of our concept would be into the hands of another internatioonal project running in parallel.
