Research Abstract

The summary of the research results of the research project during 1992-1993 is as follows.
For the purpose of obtaining the electric field, magnetic field and electromagnetic field caused by the natural lightning, the collected data on the lightning parameters especially for the winter lightning in the northern seashore districts of the Japan Sea side of the main island were analyzed and summarized. Furthermore, analysis of the location of the lightning by using the magnetic field was carried out. Moreover, the induced overvoltages on the distribution line due to lightning was analyzed. Calculated results on the overvoltages was in very good agreement with that obtained by experimental results.
With regard to the magnetic field of the commercial frequency, the measurement was carried out using a novel type of device developed by the authors. The measurement on the magnetic field around a cubicle type substation was carried out. The reasonable results was obtained which were served for detailed analysis. Furthermore, the magnetic field of the ELF frequency band around a GIL model with and infinite length was analyzed numerically and the detailed distribution of the magnetic field has been clarified.
With regard to the corona discharge from the electric power apparatus, it has been clarified by the experimental investigation in the laboratory using a needle to plane electrode at atmospheric pressure that the increase of the discharge point causes the increase of the interference due to impulsive noise. Also the influence of corona discharge and corona noise in VHF band were investigated in detail. Together with this research, an application using the Walsh function in the field of corona noise was made at the first time. As the result of this investigation, quantitative explanation has been added for the first time to the qualitative understanding which were usually made before.
