Research Abstract

We investigated the characteristics of a self-mixed Doppler signal obtained from multiple moving targets with different velocity components theoretically and experimentally for the measurement of blood flow in tissue. The results showed that the self-mixed Doppler signal was linearly superimposed from each waveform of the different frequency components obtained from the multiple moving targets. The maximum frequency (Fmax) of the superimposed spectrum was estimated to be about 70% of the peak flow velocity of the multiple moving targets with different velocities. This value provides tentative criteria for judgment of tissue blood flow. Excellent linear relationships were obtained between the frequency (Fmax) of the blood velocity and the known blood flow velocity in the flow channel (0.994).
