Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to develop a computer assisted training system for promoting instructional designing abilities and teaching skills during preservice teacher training courses. The researchers believed that there should be two important functions in this system, such as 1) to evaluate the decision models of the teacher trainees and their instructional plans, and 2) to simulate the instructional plans in order to provide appropriate advice and feedback. First, the researchers focused on evaluating the decision models and developing a computer simulation model for instructional activities. Then a pilot system based on the developed model and a method for designing instructional plans were developed. Next a design of the training system especially focusing on the realization of a communication interface was discussed. As a result, it was determined that free-word input method was not suitable for this case. Therefore, the researchers decided to develop a system which included a

textbook detabase and item lists. This training system contained the textbook database on "counting numbers of cases" using eight different kinds of textbooks of "Mathematics 1" for the first grade level of upper secondary schools. The teacher trainees who used this system were able to retrieve necessary information from the database, and cut and paste the information on the electric sheets on the computer screen. Moreover, they could paste some items, such as educational environment, the purpose of the plan, and instruction al activities, from the menu of the computer screen in order to develop instructional plans with time flow and reasons of decision making. The user's log was able to be saved in this system for the evaluation purpose. At the end of this study, some teacher trainees developed some instructional plans, and these plans were evaluated by some experts. The plans which used appropriate reasons of decision making and reasonable time flow received better evaluation by these experts. Less
