Research Abstract |
To ensure the possibility of developing gloss information, we would like to propose a method to prove existence of a gloss component, and reveal its characteristics using natural images with television. We compare a glossy object with an object without gloss on the assumption that an object sprayd with oil is a glossy object. We separate an image into small several regions and calculate the frequency distribution of the average value and the density variation in each area. The results concluded that the distribution in a glossy image was not uniform and was separated into several groups. In an HLS color coordinate, the distribution area of gloss expands in proportion to gloss strength on th LS plane. We showed that there was the possibility of detecting a gloss component through these experiments. In a three dimensional space having HLS components, we recognized the existence of a gloss map using a matrix obtained from information around a picture element, and identified the mapping as piecewise lineare mapping.
