Research Abstract |
Maximum capacity of a road networks is constrained by the capacity of car parks as well as the capacity of links (road sections). Parking vehicles on-street reduce link capacity and consequently decrease maximum network capacity. When the links of a network do not have enough capacity, the improvement of car parks may not increase the network capacity as a whole. Contrary, the improvement of road sections may not contribute the increase of network capacity if the capacity of car parks is limited. This project aims to develop an estimation model of road network capacity including parking capacity constraints into the previously studied maximum network capacity model. It is useful for discussing the balance of improvement level between link capacity and parking capacity if we know whether the link capacity or the parking capacity is dominant upon network capacity. The main results obtained through this project are summarized as follows ; (1) A traffic assignment simulation model, which is feasible for large scale actual networks, is modified. Parking capacity constraints in zones are considered as well as link capacity reduction by on-street pariking vehicles. (2) The model is applied to the networks in Matsuyama and Imabari cities. it is found that the model is satisfactory feasible for actual road networks. (3) An linear programming type model of maximum road network evaluation is also formulated. The zonal maximum capacity is defined and compared using the actual network in Matsuyama city.
