Research Abstract

気候システム研究センターにおいて、気候モデルの主要部である大気大循環モデルと海洋大循環モデルの開発を前年度に引続き実行した。大気モデルでは、放射過程の取り扱いで、全波数域を20のチャネルに分け、それぞれの中で吸収係数の大小に応じて波数を並べ変えて伝達方程式を解くという新しい方式を導入した。その簡略化版を中分解能モデル(T42)に組み込んで夏の日射條件で長期積分を実行した。結果は、最初の試みとしては合格と言えるレベルにある。海洋大循環モデルは、計算方式・プログラムの改良で効率を上げることに努め、従来の7〜8倍の計算スピードを持つ世界海洋循環モデルの開発に成功した。大気モデルを用いたヒプシサーマル期(今から8000年前頃)の温暖気候のシミュレーションの予備実験、簡略化した海洋循環モデルで熱塩循環に及ぼす表層風成循環の影響を調べる実験、一次元の海洋モデルで人間活動による二酸化炭素放出に対して海洋がその一部を吸収する効果および温室効果による加熱を吸収して昇温を暖和・遅延させる効果の実験なども実行した。
各大学グループの成果は次の通りである。
京都大学では、NOAA衛星データを用いて成層圏循環および全オゾン量の年々変動を10年間にわたって解析し、プラネタリー波活動の大小とオゾ量との間に相関があることを見出した。また、簡略化された大循環モデルを用いて周極渦の不安定による崩壊過程の詳細な数値実験を行った。九州大学グループでは、中層大気大循環モデルに改良された放射スキームと分子粘性の効果を導入して実験を行い、潮汐波の砕けがより良く表現されることがわかった。東大・理では、海洋の季節変動に伴い発生する各地のドーム現象の数値実験を行い、そのメカニズムを解明した。東海大ではエルニーニョ南方振動現象が大気・太平洋結合系の不安定振動であることを示した。
