Research Abstract |
We have surveyed the distribution of Lady Slippers since June 11, 1993 to 21, 1993 in Canada and America. We have surveyed their distribution at Edmonton area in Canada and Detroit area in America, from June 11 to 16 and from June 17 to 20, respectively. In Canada, Dr.Hiratuska, a coworker guided us and surveyed the distribution of Lady Slippers from Edomonton to the Rockey Mountains area and then examined their ecological studies at the three places where Yellow Lady Slippers and Franklins Lady Slipper and Albino Moccasin Flower are growing. Especially in ObedSummitto, the ecological studies on the route were carefully examined. In America, we stayed in Detroit and surveyed at the areas of the Great Lakes. Among the Lady Slippers grown in a garden by Dr.Minakami and Mr.Case we found Mountain Lady Slippers. We also examined the Yellow Lady Slippers, Pink Lady Slippers and Showery Lady Slippers near the Great Lakes. This is the first field survey for Lady Slippers in Canada and America and I think we have reached the primary goal. We have not obtained data on extraction of seeds, chromosome and DNA analyses even though we originally planned to do so in the item 4 of the purpose of this study. From February 24 to March 6, we discussed how to cultivate seeds, how to collect samples and the plans for the forthcoming year. In the next year again, we are planning to continue this work.
