Research Abstract

This project has been established as a Japan-Korea International Collaboration Program by JSPS and KOSEF. The project aimed at promotion of cooperative research on hyperon and hypernuclear physics with Korean physicists at the KEK 12-GeV Proton Synchrotron.
Following experimental programs have been carried out at the KEK-PS :
Hypernuclear Spectroscopy.
(1) Construction and installation of a large-acceptance spectrometer with a superconducting magnet (SKS) for hypernuclear experiments.
(2) Hypernuclear spectroscopic experiments on several nuclear targets with the spectrometer, which revealed new aspects of hypernuclear structure.
(3) Design of an experiment to measure hypernuclear lifetimes.
Hyperon-Nucleon Scattering.
(4) Development of a scintillation-fiber tracking chamber for hyperon-nucleon scattering experiments.
(5) A SIGMA P-scattering experiment using the first scintillation-fiber chamber.
(6) Development of track-finding programs for data analyses.
The second Japanese-Korean joint workshop on 'Strangeness in Nuclear Matter' was held at Seoul with more than 50 participants.
