| Research Abstract |
Effects of social support on health of people in stressful situations were studied from following four approaches ; (1)physiological and immunological approach, (2)psychological approach, (3)clinical psychological approach, and (4)community clinical approach. Main findings are as follows ;
(1)Students were given noise and mental tasks. Concentration of s-IgA significantly increased from the pre-experimental rest period to the post-experimental rest period. Heart rate and blink rate increascd, as well. These results show that s-IgA,as well as heart rate and blank rate, is a useful index of immunological reactivity to stress.
(2)Experiments were conducted to examine effects of situational factors in providing supports. Provision of social support, without causing evaluation apprehension or with respecting recipients'autonomy, decreased recipient's anxiety.
(3)The more support from their family, a, physician in charge, and nurses cancer patients in hospital for the first operation perceived, the less their anxiety was. In addition, support intervention by doctors and nurses relieved cancer patients under much uneasiness of psychological anxiety.
(4)Structure of support networks of married women in a local city and its effects on their mental health were studied. Some indices of perceived support networks had significant effects on their mental health.
