Research Abstract	現代の天文学は、宇宙における諸天体の形成・進化過程の解明を対象としている。このために、限られた資源である大望遠鏡からの膨大な観測データを多数の研究者が共同で解析したり、各地に分散した小口径望遠鏡の観測結果ならびに高速計算機等による理論シミュレーション計算との比較研究が重要である。従って大型観測施設と、各地に散らばる小口径観測施設、研究者、計算機施設等を結ぶ計算機ネットワーク構築が不可欠である。この様な観点から、本研究では天文学計算機ネットワークを以下の要素に分解し構築の企画調査を行った。 1.各諸観測所から生み出される観測データを解析するためのデータ解析ネットワーク 2.各観測所が連携して観測できる自動観測機能も含んだリモート観測システム(望遠鏡ネットワーク) 3.各地に分散する多波長画像、理論シミュレーション結果等を検索する天体画像データベースネットワーク 4.データ解析や観測装置制御などのためのソフトウェアの開発を組織だって行うための開発環境ネットワーク 5.スーパーコンピュータ、専用計算機等を有効利用し、理論天文学計算を行うための理論計算ネットワーク 6.研究情報の交換や研究活動の支援、資産の蓄積などを行う研究支援ネットワーク 7.これらの各要素ネットワークについて、技術検討会をとうして必要なデータ転送量等をまとめ、既存ネットワークの定量的な評価を踏まえて、総合的なネットワークとしての概念設計を行った。この結果、上記1と3のネットワークに関連して、天文画像の転送が大きな問題点であることが明かとなり、技術的な解決を探る必要性が生じた。それ以外では、既存のネットワークによりある程度の成果が達成される見込みである。今後は、試験ネットワーク等により天文画像データの転送効率の実験・測定などを行ない、天文学ネットワークの構築を目指す。
