Research Abstract |
For the 1 st year students of the Tsukuba College of Technology, a three-year college for the hearing impaired students, curriculums of the high schools, which they were graduated from, has been surveyed. The subjects are Japanese language, mathematics and science. This survey has been compared with the achievement tests of mathematics carried out at the college. The excellent correlation has been found between the survey and the test. Also the schools, that they graduated from, have been classified to (1) the general high schools, (2) public deaf schools, and (3) the national deaf schools. This classification is used for more precise study of the relation between the curriculums and the scholastic abilities the college. (2) The basic subjects in the field of science and engineering at the general education level have been compared with the individual departments' curriculum. It was found that some departments, electronics department for instance, requires the knowledge of differential and integral at early stage of the 1st year. The department also requires the basic knowledge of mathematics such as function, gauss plane (complex coordinate) , and vector. It is also found that more advanced mathematical concept are necessary for the departments' education. Especially the ordinal and partial differential equations, Fourier transform, Laplace transform, eigen value, eigen function, are necessary.
