Research Abstract |
Pseudomonas hydrogenothermophila and Hydrogenovibrio marinus are the fastest growing CO_2-fixing organisms among all kind of living matters. Both microorganisms fix CO_2 via the Calvin-Benson Cycle. The genetic studies on the CO_2 assimilation by these organisms have been achieved. RubisCO genes (cbbLS) of Pseudomonas hydrogenothermophila have been cloned and sequenced. We could not find a regulatory gene as cbbR at the upstream of cbbLS,but the existence of 2 open reading flames (cbbQ and cbbO) was confirmed at the downstream of cbbLS.Genetic studies strongly suggested both of CbbQ and CbbO function for the assembly and/or stabilization of CbbLS. Hydrogenovibrio marinus contains two L8S8-type (CbbLS-1, CbbLS-2) and one L2-type (CbbM) RubisCOs in the cells. The strain seems to adapt natural environment by changing the pattern of the expression of three RubisCOs with different characteristics.
