Research Abstract

The goal of this study was firstly to determine whether the synthesis of metallothioneins was induced by various environmental stressors such as noise, vibration, immobilization, or starvation. The goal of the study was secondly to elucidate the role of the proteins on stressful conditions by examining natures of metallothioneins, composition of the isoforms of the proteins, distribution of the proteins in the body, and variations in tissues. The method for the identification and quantification of the isometallothioneins was established by the combination of the bio-chromatography system and ion-exchange chromatography. We demonstrated that the synthesis of metallothioneins was induced and the content of the protein increased in the livers of rats exposed to noise, vibration, immobilization, and starvation.
