Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research is development of the orthogonal-core type dc-ac converter, which is proposed by the author, applicable to practical photovoltaic power system. The results obtained by the study in the time of two years are as follows : 1.Development of solar cell simulator : The simulator is constructed with a variable dc-power-supply and diode array. The I-V curves of the trial simulator for the various solar radiation show good agreement with the actual solar cell array. 2.Considerations on basic operation of orthogonal-core type dc-ac converter : Using the orthogonal-core type dc-ac converter with small capacity of 400 W,the authors clarify the basic operation of the converter. The simulated and experimental results indicate that the converter has some desirable features for a residential photovoltaic power system. 3.Optimum design of the dc-ac converter : The authors present a method for optimum design of the converter. In particular, the authors propose a new analysis method based on a three-dimensional magnetic circuit model of the orthogonal-core. The results are useful for improvement of the dc-ac converter. 4.Development of actual dc-ac converter : Based on the above results, the authors made a 3 kW orthogonal-core type dc-ac converter. The efficiency of the trial converter is 90 %. The converter can receive practical application. 5.Development of a new applications : In this research, the authors considered new applications of the orthogonal-core. One application is a new variable inductor with sinusoidal output and high speed operation using the orthogonal-core. The variable inductor is useful for a VAR compensator with high performances. The orthogonal-core type dc-ac converter presented here is useful for residential photovoltaic power system because of the converter has desirable features which include simple construction, easiness of maintenance and excellent fault tolerance.
