Research Abstract |
We have developed the micro jet pump as a heart assist device. Jet pump was consisted in order NOZZLE,INLET,THROAT and DIFFUSER.All compornents were fabricated to cone or column pipe on the same axis and there was no moving parts in this pump. We made 2 types of models in order to get the datum in 2 enviroment. One made from brass was the type for bench test to examine the caracteristics of the pump, and another made from acril resin and vinylchrolide was the type for animal experiment. In the bench test, we got 3070 ml/min of pump output by 1010 ml/min of jet flow volume against 40 mmHg afterload using 40% glycerine solusion. We measured flow velosity by Fiberoptic Laser Velocimeter, and maximum jet flow velosity was within 10 m/sec which was reported previously as the comparativery safe zone for machanical hemokysis. We performed animal experiments using adult goat. When natural heart was the condition of ventricular fiblilation under the assist of left heart bypass, 1.8 or 2.0 l/min of jet flow in right heart system made 2.5 l/min of increase of left heart output. In conclusion, although there remain many probrems for clinical usage of jet pump, including heamolysis, positioning and pump efficiency, we hope it would be useful device for right heart assist. And the use of micro jet pump for left heart assist and child heart assist should be study in the future.
