Research Abstract

The first rise of industry was promoted by railway business with cotton industry and mining industry from 1886 in Japan. In this time, many private railway companies were established. Especialy, main lines like as Sanyo railway, Kyusyu railway, Kansei railway, and Hokkaido-Tanko railway were constructed.
Therise of industry was collapased by the panic of 1890. But. Thepusiness conditions recovered in 1893, and the boom continued till 1897 except the period of the Sino-Japanese war (1894-95). Many private railway companies were established in the period of the second rise of industry, too.
In these circumstances, the plan of railway network was proposed by many peoples from various points of view. In this project, I make clear the feature of the plan of railway network in the period of Meiji Japan, refereing to following subjects.
(1)The railway theory of "Tokai Keizai Shinpo (Tokai Economic Journal)"
(2)The railway theory of "Tokyo Keizai Zasshi (Tokyo Economic Journal)".
(3)The plan of railway network by Minami Kiyoshi.
(4)The reilway policy of Saburi Kazutugu.
(5) The promotion plan of Yokohama railway company and Yokohama business world.
(6) The establisment of Kyoto railway company and Kyoto business world.
(7) The railway problems of the Chamber of Commerce in Kawagoe.
