Research Abstract |
alphaA-crystallin is a major structual protein of the eye lens in most vertebrates. The Japanese mole Mogera wogura ia s mammalian species that has lost vision. In the Southern blot analysis, where part of the human alphaA-crystallin gene is used as probe, there appears a faint signal on the mole genome DNA.Its signal intensity is apparently weaker than that on the chicken genome DNA.This result suggerts an increased rate of base substitution on the mole alphaA-crystallin gene after its diversification from the ancestor of mammals.
