Research Abstract

Shirasu are widely distributed as accumulation of volcanic eruption over Southenrn part of Kyushu. We investigated on synthesis of Ultramarine from Shirasu, Na-P type zeolite and filtrate of Na-P by hydrothermal treament at 100-120゚C.
By hydrothermal treatment under controled alkarine condition, the Shirasu was early transformed to hydroxysodalite and Na-P type zeolite. As the addition of NaCl was increased, sodalite was obtained. The sodalite (3Na_2O・3Al_2O_3・6SiO_2・2NaCl), hydroxysodalite (3Na_2O・3Al_2O_3・6SiO_2・2H_2O) and Ultramarine (3Na_2O・3Al_2O_3・6SiO_2・NaS_3) have a same framework.
Therefore, Shirasu was treatmented with various Sulfurs (S,Na_2S,Na_2SO_4, Na_2S_2O_3) under various alkarine condition at 120゚C for insertion of Sulfur into sodalite framework.
The sodalites framework (S.S) containing Sulfur similar to Ultramarine were derived from Shirasu, Na-P type zeolite and P-filtrate with various Sulfurs. But, when a large amount of sulfur (S,Na_2S) was added, Natrodavyne (3Na_2O・3Al_2O_3・6SiO_2・Na_2CO_3) was obtained.
Blue-, red-, yellow-and white-Ultramarine were obtained when were calcinated various kind of sodalite framework S.S containing sulfur for 2-4 minute at 1250゚C.In conclusion, the S.S derived from Shirasu were more colorful than Na-P type zeolite and P-filtrate when calcinated for coloring. It was understanded that sulfur were contained 7.8% in S.S derived from Shirasu (8.6% in case of Ultramarine).
