Research Abstract

Enzyme-histochemical study of the development of initial lymphatics.
1.Ontogeny of iymphatic vessels : Fine structure and distribution of initial lymphatics and blood capillaries in several organs were studied with special reference to the the development of some functions of feeding, respiration et al. The lymphatic network developed according to the development of the function of the organs.
2.Experiment of the regeneration of lymphatics : Enzyme-histochemical property of the vessels in the skins, which were injured or transplanted, were examined in the rat and monkey. The lymphatics and blood vessels in these skin tissues revelaed high 5'-Nase and ALPase activity respectively.
3.The effect of the blockage of the lymphatic system in the intestne : The morphological changes of lymphatic vessels after thoracic duct (TD) ligation were examined using a light and electron microscope. After the TD ligation, intramural and mesenteric lymphatic vessels were distended and 5'-Nase activity of the central lymphatic vessels decreased.
4.in vitro proliferation of lymphatic endotherial cells : The endotherial cells were separated from the monkey thoracic duct using collagenase digestive method and cultured in the medium with endotherial growth factor (EGF) for a few weeks. The cultured enthotheral cells were 5'-Nase-positive. Further examination is needed to ascertain the canal formation in vitro.
