Research Abstract |
Although there are many concepts about the function of the folliculo-stellate cell in the anterior pituitary, exact functions are still unknown. That is a supporting cell and/or stem cell theory. It is understood that the cell is a silent cell to the experimental conditions. On the other hand, it is not found the innervation to control hormone secretion of the gland. We had shown that the folliculo-stellate cells which consisted the follicle were connected by the gap junctions and also follicles connected by the gap junctions. Thus the folliculo-stellate cells make up the dense network over the gland and the cell behaves as functional syncytium. These findings clearly indicate that the cells directly participates into control the secretion function of the gland. On this view point, we start the studies to clarify following things : 1) Ultrastructural 3-D architecture 2) Distributions of enzymes on the plasma membrane 3) Gap Junctional network of the folliculo-stellate cells We published papers in attached paper as the results of our studies. And also we send the following papers for publication. 1) In vivo uptake of lecithin-coated polystirene beads by rat hepatocytes and sinusoidal endothelial cells. Miharu Kanai et al. (to the Cell and Tissue Research) 2) Intercellular communications of the developing anterior pituitary of the female rat Chieko Kurono et al. (to the Anatomical Record) 3) Sealing of the follicular lumen of the anterior pituitary of male rat. Yoshio Mabuchi et al. (to the Anatomical Record)
