Research Abstract |
Thirtythree patients with thrombosed aortic dissection were studied by CT,MRI,and computerized digital subtraction angiography. Of these 36 patients, 31 were found to have ulcerlike projection. As for the locations of ulcerlike projection, 2 were in the ascending aorta, 1 in the aortic arch, 68 in the descending thoracic aorta, 23 in the abdominal aorta, and 2 in the pelvic arteries. Out of this number, 14 ulcerlike projections in 14 patients were identified at the entry sites as commonly seen in double-barreled type aortic dissection, and 28 ulcerlike projections in 12 patients were detected at the orifices of the small branches. In 29 patients with 83 ulcerlike projections, the natural history of ulcerlike projections was evaluated.Twentytwo lesions in 15 patients progressed to aortic aneurysm, 12 lesions in 6 patients progressed to recanalization of the false lumen of aortic dissection.
