Research Abstract |
Materials and methods Wister strain rats weighing 300g were used. A silicon catheter was inserted into the right carotid vein and a 2*7 cm random pattern flap was raised on the back. Simultaneously, The dye distance (DD), in the skin flap was measured by 0.5% patent blue injection. The following two groups were studied : Group 1 (non-treated) ; Group 2 (bFGF treated by intravenous infusion). Then the pedicle of the flap was excised at one (Group 1a and 2a) , two (Group 1b and 2b) , three (Group 1c and 2c) and four (Group 1d and 2d) days and the blood folw in the flap was measured before and after pedicle excision, using a laser flow meter. The survival area of the flap was measured seven days its preparation. Then, using same flaps, a silicon gauze was placed on the recipient bed and the flap was placed on it. The survival length (SL) of the flap was measured five days its preparation in the following three groups : Group 3 (non treated) ; Group 4 (bFGF treated) ; Group 5 (TxA_2 synthtic enzyme inhibitor). Results In the fitst study, complete necrosis of the flap was observed in Group 1a, 1b and 2a. Partial survival in the area from the pedicle to DD of the flap was observed in Group 1c and conplete survival was observed in Group 1d, 2b, 2c, and 2d. Blood flow after pedicle excison was not monitored in Group 1a, 1b and 2a. In Group 1c, 1d, 2b, 2c and 2d, blood flow was monitored, however, it had diminished to 20-30% of the pre-excision levels. In the next study, In Group 3 and 4, SL were almost coincidental. In Group 5, SL was observed to extend about 10 mm beyond DD.
