Research Abstract |
We have newly developed a CPM (Continuous Passive Motion) system that can continuously move the patient's knee for the rehabilitation after the surgical operation. This system has a unique driving mode that is learning function. Firstly, a medical doctor or a functional therapist mounts the patient's knee on this system and moves the knee by his own way. Then this system follows a treatment pattern for the passive motion change. The driving system was controlled by the program developed on lap-top computer system. During the CPM driving, the motion change and the torque of knee were accurately measured and saved on the memory device. All the sequences, motion change of knee and the knee torque were displayd on the CRT. From these data, change in torque-motion relationship was clearly demonstrated before and during the CPM treatment. This system will be useful for the clinical CPM tretment because of the easy operation with leaning system and the ability of the measurement of useful data.
