Research Abstract |
The goal of this research is to establish a physiological profile during shampooing in the supine rest position. At the time of our study, repeated shampooing with varying amounts of warm water was completed on the same subject to detect the metabolic change, skin temperature and heart rate represented physiological variances. Method of Experiment and Time of Procedure : 1.In all the subjects, two full pitchers of warm water or four full pitchers of warm water are used for shampooing at the same time on varying days. 2.In all the subjects, the contents of breakfast and the time of breakfast are constant in order to precede the shampooing experiment. 3.Ten healthy female subjects with mean age of 20.5(]SY.+-。[)1.1 are shampooed with luke-warm water by temperature ranging from 41.4 and 41.8 ; skin temperature and heart rate is measured in each subject. 4.Eight healthy female subjects with mean age of 18.9(]SY.+-。[)0.99 are shampooed with luke-warm water with a temperature variance between

43.40 and 43.2 ; again, skin temperature and heart rate is measured in each subject. Result : 1.By shampooing during either temperature rage, the following result are obtained. (1)An elevation of the metabolic rate after shampooing from the supine rest position was recognized both from the two pitcher method and the four pitcher method. (2)The skin temperatures from eight different positions were measured continuously, an elevation was prominent on both the shoulders and the forehead which were easily affected by exposure to luke-warm water. The elevation of peripheral skin temperatures was still significant 10 minutes after termination of skin temperatures. (3)The mean pulse rate, which was measured continuously, had been slightly elevated at the beginning and the end of shampooing ; however, the decrease of pulse rate when the patient is resting, not pursuing any activities including ingestion of food, is seen between the beginning and the termination of rinsing. (4)The level of comfort was sufficient after shampooing in all patients regardless of the volume of water used. In addition, only one patient from a pool of eighteen subjects detected a difference in the volume of water. 2.An analysis of the comparative findings of different temperature of waters is currently under in-vestigation.
