Research Abstract |
Strongly coupled Coulombic system of a classical one-component plasma has been studied by using a two-dimensional (2-D) charged metallic particle system confined on a silicon (Si) wafer. The charge and the thermal motion of the particles are controlled by a high voltage on the wafer and an intensity of mechanical oscillation of the wafer produced by the sound from the speaker, separately. It has been demonstrated that the Coulomb coupling parameter for the particles GAMMA can be varied up to 2000. When GAMMA-240 (rotational energy is included in the estimation of GAMMA), the transition from the liauid to the Wigner triangle crystal phases is observed. The electrostatic plasma mode has been studied by measuring the spacial profile. and the frequency spectrum in the liquid phase (GAMMA-60) and compaired with the particle simulation results.
