Research Abstract	本研究は、前庭頚運動系において、中枢神経系に存在する感覚入力座標系と運動出力座標系における信号の空間座標変換(sensorimotor transformation)の中枢神経機構を解析することを目的として行われた。左右6個の三半規管神経に刺激電極を植え、15の異なる頚筋の運動ニューロンから細胞内記録を行い、各筋の運動ニューロンが6個の半規管からどのような入力を受けるのか、さらに延髄で切断実験を行い、各半規管からの中枢の神経経路を明らかにした。各筋の全ての運動ニューロンは左右の半規管からの入力に関してその筋固有の入力パターンを持っていた。この入力パターンは、4種類あり、全ての頚筋へのパターンは、この4種類のいづれかに属していた。水平半規管入力については、全ての頚筋に共通であり、対側から興奮、同側から抑制を受けていた。頚筋伸筋群は両側前半規管から興奮、両側後半規管から抑制を受けており、屈筋群は、その逆で、前半規管から抑制、後半規管から興奮を受けた。外側に位置する最長筋群は、対側垂直半規管から興奮、同側垂直半規管から抑制を受け、後頭斜筋は、その逆で、対側垂直半規管から抑制、同側から興奮の入力を受けていた。以上のように、異なる頚筋群に属する頚筋が、6半規管から一定のパターンの入力を受けており、異なる頚筋群に属する頚筋は全て、6個の半規管から一定の空間パターンの入力を受けており、形態的に分類された頚筋群の分類が機能的にも重要な構成単位となっていることが明らかとなった。
