Research Abstract |
I have developed, in cooperation with dentists, magnetic attachments which are used for retaining dental prostheses such as overdentures. Some of them have been put to practical use and used clinically in dental offices. However, there arise many demands clinically for developing more versatile magnetic attachments usable for each patient flexibly. The objective of this study is to develope various kinds of magnetic attachements convenient for clinical use and investigate their usage. The results obtained during two fiscal years (1993 and 1994) are as follows. 1.Development of magnetic field analysis softwares which are used for analizing magnetic retention of attachments. 2.Analysis of magnetic attachments on shaping and cutting in their clinical use. 3.Analysis of retention characteristics of attchments for long term clinical use. 4.Development of a very thin type of magnetic attachments which is useful for retention of overdentures with thin dental base. 5.Development of new attachments with strong restoring retention usable for patients whose oral state changes for long terms. 6.The attachment described above have been constructed and put in practical use.
