Research Abstract |
Fifty or more of the limestone fragments brought to light belong to another false door decorated in sunk relief. On the upper part of this monument the usual titles are accompanied by standing figures of Khaemwaset, arranged symmetrically at each side. All the rest of the limestone fragments, originating from the walls of building itself, are executed in raised relief, and again incorporate the name, titles and figures of the prince. None of the ink inscriptions brought to light so far has yielded a year date, although they frequently mention the month and day of the activity recorded, as well as the names of persons involved and their titles. The only clue to the date of construction is prince^<, >s titulary : the occurrence of all four titles would seem to indicate that the monument was erected after the first quarter of the reign of his father Ramesses II. The remaining components of the building are comparatively small, and no further room with densely assembled blocks has yet been detected to the west of the cult room. Whether Khaemwaset intended to build a new type of cult structure, or whether the apparent inconsistency in the plan was caused by changes during the construction process are questions that remain to be answered by future excavation.
