| Research Abstract |
この研究計画の主たる目的は、自然の究極の構成要素を理解することと同時にそれらの構成要素を記述する理論物理学の枠組みを解明することである。この目的に向けて、本研究計画の代表者および分担者はそれぞれの研究協力者と共同で研究を進め、以下に記すような成果を挙げた。
藤川は、山田篤志助手と共同して、クオークとくにトップクオークのカイラルな構造を電子陽電子対消滅の実験データに基づき分析し、非常な精度で標準模型が示唆する左巻きの構造をしていることを明らかにした。また、藤川はこの結果に基づきクオークとレプトンのベクトル型の模型を考察した。
江口は、共同研究者と共に超対称性を持つゲージ理論の基本的な構造を解明した。特に、Yang-Mills場自身および物質場を含む理論における共形不変性の明快な分析を行った。また、3とか5次元時空間における場の理論を超弦理論の成果を取り入れる形で分析した。さらに、超弦理論そのものおよび量子重力理論に関する考察も行った。
柳田は、共同研究者と共に標準模型に超対称性を取り入れた模型の種々の力学的な側面の考察を行った。特に、超対称大統一模型における階層構造と呼ばれる問題を考察し,なぜ現在のエネルギースケールにおける物理と大統一模型のスケールでの物理が、大きな陽子崩壊を起こさずに一つの理論的枠組みに自然に実現されるかの問題を解明した。また、同時に、超対称性の破れの機構の基本的な考察も行った。
なお、CERNからの訪問者は非常に有益な情報をもたらしてくれたし、また東大からのCERNへの訪問者は非常に学問的な刺激を受けたことも特記したい。
