Research Abstract

蛋白質のアミノ酸置換とDNAの塩基置換に関して現実に即した置換モデルを構築し、最尤法による分子系統樹推定のための方法を開発した。ミトコンドリアをもたない原生生物のうち、微胞子虫がランブル鞭毛虫などのディプロモナスよりも先に高等真核生物に至る系統から分かれたことを示した(長谷川)。
組織特異的に発現する遺伝子、シグナル伝達系に関与する遺伝子、および細胞内局在性を示す遺伝子を解析した結果、これらの遺伝子グループはそれぞれ、脊椎動物の進化の初期、多細胞化が起きた時期、および真核生物の進化の初期に急速に多様化したことが分かった。その多様化は、脊椎動物の進化、多細胞化、および細胞内構造の進化と関連していると考えられる(宮田)。
分子進化学的な方法により、エイズウイルスがどのように突然変異を蓄積しているかを調べ、未来進化を予測するための手掛かりを得た(五條堀)。
旧世界ザルにおける免疫グロブリンCα遺伝子の解析から、この遺伝子が超優性淘汰によって進化してきた可能性のあることを示した(植田)。3人の現代人とチンパンジー、ボノボ、ゴリラ、オランウータンなどの4種の類人猿で、ミトコンドリアDNAの全塩基配列を解析し、人類進化のついての新たな知見を得た(宝来)。
転移性遺伝因子(トランスポゾン)を脊椎動物においてはじめてメダカのアルビノ変異のチロシナーゼ遺伝子内に発見し、活性のあるトランスポゾンであることを証明した(堀)。またSINEというトランスポゾンのゲノム中への挿入パターンが、さまざまな系統学的な問題を解くためのマーカーとして役に立つことを示した(岡田)。昆虫細胞内共生微生物が選択的に合成するシンビオニンを近縁な昆虫種で比較した結果、これらの遺伝子の133番目のコドン変異が適応的に選択されており、分子シャペロンに新たな機能が賦与されていることが示唆された(石川)。
