| Research Abstract |
1) In addition to the individual research by each investigator, the follwoing four research meetings were held :
12-13 May, 1995 (five papers were read, including that of Prof.Takeuchi) ; 23 September, 1995 (papers were read by Profs.Inose, Kitagawa and Dan) ; 9-10 December, 1995 (the members discussed about Prof.Yoshihiko Sugimoto's book, The Empire of Civilizaition) ; 28 January, 1996 (a paper was read by Prof.Asada)
2) As the result of these research activities, various aspects and historical phases of the British imperial mind since the seventeenth century were brought into relief. Imperial mind and mentalities in the colonized part of the world were also analyzed by Prof.Tetsuaki Okamoto (about Australia) and Profs.Kitagawa and Dan (about South Africa). The discussion about Prof.Sugimoto's book on the French imperial mind was extremely useful in putting the British imperialism in a comparative perspective.
3) The main achievements of two years' joint research were printed in a research report. We are planning to publish and enlarged version in a book form in the near future.
