Research Abstract |
We study nosho (farm literture) in the Edo period to explain states of reproduction covering the whole of food, clothing and housing that are essential to live in the Edo period. We placed the nosho as a literature group that has both hardware and software of agricultural technique technique. And we approached industrial technique from three sides of a human being, a thing and information without putting in a narrow frame of industiral technique. Next we introduced a visual angle of "the formation of the region" that we put production, consumption and culture in the region together as one. We reserched into historical material of nosho in the Edo period that are scattered all over the country. And we classified fifteen themes and made catalogs each nosho. The number of articles of each theme is described in the pages that follow. "A regional nosho" are 92. "A farming diary" are 14. "A special product" are 27. "Processing of farm procucts" are 18. "Garden ing" are 5. "Forestry" are 4. "F

ishery" are 10. "Stock raising and a veterinarian" are 6. "Spread of agricultural technique" are 20. "Promotion of a farm village" are 6. "Development and preservation" are 10. "A disaster and restoration" are 15. "Herbage and relief of the famine victims" are 5. "Nosho by scholars" are 33. And we continue to investigate "Agricultural Fingures". Nosho in the Edo period are classics that we should reconsider society and agriculture in contemporary Japan from the bases. So to speak, they are treasure of the race. Because they put up with a lot of criticism in long time and they are worth reading beyond the time. Agriculture in contemporary Japan is in the high technical stage of mechanization. And the base is the conventional farming in the Edo period (the world of nosho in the Edo period). Industry of agriculture, forestry and fishery has a role of supplying safe, low-priced and fresh raw materials of food, clothing and housing. And it has protected life of human beings and an activity of nature. These are truth over region and time. Now, environmental polution is an important problem on a global scale. So, first we must start reading nosho in the Edo period to healthy development of Agriculture in Japan. Less
