Research Abstract |
The Aim of the research project is to investigate research environment of university researchers in terms of time budgets. The followings are performed to accomplish the aim. (1) Investigations of relevant statistical survey systems We investigated relevant statistical survey systems in Japan, for example, the survey of Research and Development (Statistics Bureau, Management and Coordination Agency). We also collected documents of the relevant survey systems in both OECD and USA to investigate survey methods and manuals concerning with FTE (full time equivalent). (2) Preparatory surveys toward some university researchers Preparatory interview surveys toward some university researchers in the fields of literature, history studies, economics, law, physics, agriculture, clinical medicines, medical sciences, pharmacy, education, fine arts, and so on, to design of framework of time budget surveys. (3) Design of framework of time budget survey Based on preparations as stated above, we designed the framework and questionnaires to investigate research activities, research environment and time budgets of university researchers. (4) Carrying out the time budget survey The time budget surveys were carried out by both visiting and mail surveys. More than 1,100 samples were obtained in both survey. Analyzing the survey results, we obtained overall features of time budgets of university researchers. (5) Considerations of Full Time Equivalent According to analysis of results, we estimated some FTEs.
