Research Abstract |
(1) 84% of teacher's colleges in Japan have environmental education curricula in spite of that are not essential subjects for students to become a school teacher. This ratio show high consciousness of college teachers to environmental education. (2) Environmental education in Japanese teacher's college are mainly taught by natural scientists (57%) and social scientists (26%). (3) Contents of environmental education which we newly developed are as follows : A.Historical background of environmental education B.Environmental education in foreigh countries C.Cognitive & emotinal development of students D.Objectives of environmental education Basic concepts to organize environmental education curricula F.Objectives & contents of enviromental education in each level (4) We also developed teaching programs such as "Environmental education at elementary school through acid rain", "Mechanism of earthquake and preparatory activity to earthquake". (5) One of our research staffs had stayd the University of Hawaii for ten months in 1995. Then he got experiences of environmental education at college level on ecology in the wetland, pollution in seashore, etc. He also noticed the university students often used internet computer system when they present their data from environment observation.
