Research Abstract |
This study investigated how the freeway construction in a metropolis affected the forming of urban structure by using trip-chaining approach. After reviewing the state-of-the-art in close-relation analysis and trip chaining analysis, we proposed a new model for metropolitan-area wide close-relation between any two links of freeways, here urban expressways. Conventional idea of the close-ralation between links was improved to meet with widely developed freeways in a metropolitan area. By using Markov chain model, we proposed a new concept of close-relation between links, say "dynamic index of close-relation". Here close-relation between links is considered in one day's trip chaining process. By doing so, we can evaluate the newly constructed freeway links in the more wide-area point of view. Case study was done in east Osaka area where new link was recently constructed. Result was that this new link made a complimental role to the existing networks.
