Research Abstract |
(1)Establishment of a interferometer with optical low-coherent source. The characteristics of interference output obtained by a heterodyne detection scheme between the light scattered from particles in the flow and the referencing light are investigated in a low-coherent interferometer with a superluminescent diode(SLD). (2)Two dimensional flow velocity measurement along the depth by using SLD. Traverse measurement of flow velocity along the depth could be carried out by moving the micro-positioner on which a mirror is fixed to reflect the reference light. The velocity distribution similar to the theoretical one was obtained by traverse-measuring the velocity in the flow including the high density of particles along the depth. (3)Establishment of measuring system. An optical fiber is used in the proposing system to make setting easy and a fiber directional coupler is used as a beam splitter. The measuring system is automated by connecting the measuring apparatus by GPIB. The spectrum is obtained by FFT analyzing the interference output from the photomultiplier. The linear relationship between the spectral width at the half peak value and the velocity in the flow passage was obtained. It is the original method in calculating the velocity to use this linear relationship. (4)Estimation of the performance of this measuring system. The reasonable result was obtained that the larger the number of particles crossing the SLD beam a unit time is, namely the faster the flow velocity is and the higher the density of particles in the flow is, the wider the half peak value of the spectrum is. The visibility of this system is about 30 mu m.
