Research Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop a teaching material that was feasible for developing ability to judge situations requiring specialized care and to make decision. In this study, a case of the elderly patient, a serious social problem at present, was employed to develop a multimedia CAI which could be useful to develop studens' ability to determine nursing diagnosis and interventions.
In 1986, overall evaluation was carried out with the completion of the first multimedia CAI software. The process of formulating nursing diagnosis "impaired physical mobility", "impaired verbal communication", impaired swallowing", "altered urinary elimination", and "self-esteem disturbance", generated from the case of elderly patient with cerebral infarction, was adopted in making a draft framework according to the course outline and was computerized. The completed draft framework was modified concerning questionable items in detail by producers of the courseware and display. The software completed at this stage was implemented in the college of and junior college of nursing and evaluated. The result was used to modify the CAI software and it was finally completed. However, it remains to be reevaluated whether the finally modified software requires any revision or not.
Members of this study consist of instructors in the college and junior college of nursing, computer system engineers in NTT CO., VTR/CD producers. In cooperation with those members, this study has completed eventually and the result is planned to be read at the 5th International Congress on Nursing Informatics that will be held in September, 1997 in Stockholm.
