| Research Abstract |
ニホンザルの子育て戦略を把握するために、勝山ニホンザル集団(野生集団)と勝山第2実験所ニホンザル放飼集団において、母ザルと生後2年目の子ザルとの関係を様々な観点から観察した。
母ザルが休息中には、子ザルとの比較的密な関わりが頻繁に見られるが、母ザルの採食中には子ザルと母ザルの関わりはかなり少なくなった。しかし、母ザルが集団の他のメンバーと山の中を移動する際には、生後2年目の子ザルでも、母ザルとの距離は大変近いものであった。このように、母ザルのおかれた場面によって、子ザルとの関わりの頻度が異なった。また、母ザルが連続出産して、生後1年目の子ザルを育てている場合には、生後2年もの兄も姉も、母ザルからの独立がより促進されていた。母ザルの集団内での順位序列は、基本的には、大きな影響を与えていないように思われた。これらの野性集団で見られた傾向は、放飼集団でも同様に確認された。
さらに、昨年度に得られた資料や、これまで、申請者が継続して行ってきたニホンザル以外のサル類の母性行動との比較検討を行った。その結果、先天性四肢奇形をもって生まれた子ザルに対するニホンザルの母ザルの養育行動は、子ザルの障害を補償するに、十分な適応的変化を示していた。また、カニクイザルの母ザルも野外場面から飼育下に移されても、母性はほとんど影響されず、環境変化に即応した子育てを行った。また、下等な原猿の母ザルも高等なニホンザルと類似した母性行動を行うことも明らかになった。以上のように、ニホンザルの子育て戦略を理解するために、近縁種などとの比較も行い、大きな成果を得られた。
