Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to elucidate the hitherto unnoticed phenomena of dialect in Japan, in relation to so-called new dialect forms which are still propagating among younger speakers. In spite of the recent standardization due to modernization of the Japanese society, there still are dialectal differences. Some of these have been ignored even by dialectologists because even the fact that they show geographical differences is not recognized by them. In this study many examples were gathered from personal experiences of students, and large scale survey was executed all over Japan. A booklet was published as a report fot recent distribution of various linguistic phenomena. The report is based on surveys in many junior-high-schools all over Japan. Many new dialect phenomena and hitherto unnoticed geographical distributions were found. The recent changes of dialects in Japan showed interesting phenomena.
