Research Abstract

We can say that there has not been a considerable amount of studies about theatrical activities in local areas. As for entertainments in local cities, particularly Kabuki and Joruri, their traditional way of performances and their documents risk already disappearing. Focusing on the problem of tradition and modernity in Japanese culture, we conducted the research for the purpose of compiling and publishing a chronological table of theatrical performances at Hakata after Meiji. We hope that the research results will be utilized openly for the public concern.
