Research Abstract |
Experiments of ignition and combustion in supersonic air flow field have been carried out by means of dc arc dischrges exposed directly in the flows. The arcs are produced between two electrodes mounted in the combustion chamber wall and pushed out by several kind of gases. The work showed that air or oxygen seemed to be more appropriate than argon, nitrogen or helium as the carrier gas supplied at the electrodes, from view points of effectiveness and practical use for the ignition of methane or methane/hydrogen mixture gas in supersonic air flows around M=2.0.
