Research Abstract |
In proportion to the enlargement of population and scale in an act to build structure, the influence given to global environment has become too great to be ignored. With respect to the performance evaluation of building materials, the performance at the stage of using building is taken into consideration so far, but it has become insufficient in the light of environmental problems on earth. It has became important to consider comprehensively through the life cycle of building materials. In this study, the life cycle may be divided into ten stages of treatment action. Namely, 1 : Collection, 2 : Manufacture, 3 : Construction, 4 : Service, 5 : Maintenance, 6 : Disassembly (or Demolition), 7 : Withdrawal and Recycle, 8 : Scraping, 9 : Storage and 10 : Transport. The purpose of this study is to find a method for evaluation for a comparison the life cycle performance of each building construction systems, by investigations of quantity in the use of resources, energy and CO_2 at each stage. In 1994, investigations that are concerned with the influence given to global environment by main building materials for instance wood, concrete, metal and plastics through the life cycle were carried out. The outline of results show that important stages of the life cycle are different by the kind of material. A investigation on gypsum board were carried out and outline was studied. In 1995, detailed investigations on the stage of scrapping and withdrawal and recycle were carried. For this purpose a model of process of withdrawal and recycle was prepared and main factors were examined. Finally, results of investigation of last year and results of studies of this year were arranged.
