Research Abstract

(1) Induction of the 72-kD heat shock protein in human skin melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma cell lines-----We showed that, in cultured cells, inducibility of HSP72 depends not only on the inducer but also on the origin of each cell line.
(2) Induction of the low-molecular-weight heat shock protein HSP27 in organ cultured normal human skin-----We demonstrated that low-molecular-weight heat shock protein HSP72 was induced by heat and ultraviolet light in normal human skin.
(3) Age-related decrease of inductability of HSP72 in normal skin---Using organ-cultured normal human skin, we showed that the inducibility of HSP72 is decreased by chronological aging.
(4) DNA-damaging agents induce the 72-kD heat shock protein in SV40-transformed human fibroblast cell line----Various types of DNA-damaging agents induced the HSP72 on the human fibroblasts. DNA damage is considered to be one of the triggers of the induction of HSP72.
(5) HSP72 induction in systemic organs of rats after severe burn injury--- We examined the induction of HSP72 in various organs in rats with severe burns, and confirmed that severe burn injury causes a stress response in systemic organs.
(6) Epinephrine induces 72-kD heat shock protein (HSP72) in cultured human fibroblasts-----We showed that the epinephrine is actually a potent inducer of HSP72 and the cells are stressed by epinephrine at a concentration of routine use in surgery. Furthermore, the induction of HSP72 by epinephrine is considered to be related to beta-adrenergic action of epinephrine.
