Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to create the three-dimensional (3D) reconstructed image using multi-layr cross-sectional tomography of Jaw and/or tooth arch. Firstly, to obtain the cross-sectional image which is fit to 3D reconstruction, we investigated how much the horizontal x-ray beam direction affected the crosssectional image of the mandibular molar region. As a result of studies, following technique were used to find a best x-ray beam direction and to create the 3D image. 1 : As a orientation, five or more images of each mandibular region are taken with digital changes in the horizontal x-ray beam direction. 2 : A x-ray beam direction is chosen using the sharpness of cortical bone and the area of cross-cut jaw bone as the criteria. 3 : Serial cross-cut images are taken in the corrected x-ray beam direction. 4 : The images are digitized by a scanner and reconstructed to a 3D image. This 3D image may useful to the endosseous implant treatment.
