Research Abstract |
The purpose of the present work is to obtain fundamental data for introducing ion engineering techniques in dental alloys. Ion implantation, plating and mixing techniques were employed. Ion implantation improved remarkably the corrosion resistance. A superlattice structure was formed by annealing after the implantation. However, it is a problem for the implantation surface to have rough surface. Ion plating produced a homogeneous coating surface and improved the strength and corrosion resistance. We got best results by ion mixing technique, which corresponds to use at the same time ion implantation and ion plating. This method has an additional merit which we can control the thickness of surface modification. During the present work, we also discuss the ordering mechanism in CuAu I,the formation of which is expected by annealing after the surface modification in dental gold alloy. The ordering proceeded in three stages (I,II and III). Stage I corresponds to the ordering by migration and annihilation of quenched-in excess divacancies. This ordering stage will be available on ion mixing treatment sample, because of be possible at room temperature.
