Research Abstract |
The factory automation, which is called CIM (Computer Integrated Manufacturing), has changed the nature of work organization, and can lead to potential influences which reflect interaction between individual capability and work. The field survey was carried out by interviewing methods to evaluate psychosocial effects of the employees working with CIM.The results are as follows : (1) It was shown that introduction of CIM into production systems is closely related to a change of work associated with little skill, little work contens, and fragmented work as well as an enhancement and encouragement of human ability. The CIM has a high possibility fo help for doing various tasks with high speed. (2) From follow-up study on the changes of work organizaiton it was found that borderline between routine work and complex work necessary for decision making was changed. Most of the latter work became simple in the level of complexity of the work. The responsibility for each production unit were required in the individual level of the emplyees. (3) It can be said that CIM brought a considerable reduction of workload in the work process, while the innovation involves a risk of occurrences of different type of workload which will result in occupational stresses associated with fragmented work organization. It may be concluded that for the middle aged employees there are specially the need to sufficient and effective supports for adaptation to the new environment and organization from the CIM.
