Research Abstract |
This study is to clarify design modules for the old royal biuldinge centering on quabrangle architecture, i.e.Chok, by taking the case of Patan Darbar which represents historical buildings in Nepal. To clarify a dimensional design for the height of quadrangle architecture, a dimensional composition of a brick size of the outer wall and a detailed part of wood carving of a pillar are important. Examination of a measure of pillar and a measure of brick of each quadrangle architecture according to the results of measurement of Patan Darbar makes it possible to think that there exists a measurement of layout for each component and to confirm that there exists the standard scale based on the hat unit. Also, examination of the cross section of an entire building makes it clear that, for the measure of the cross section of each story of Mul Chok, the height of brick wall is the standard measurement which is 5.5 hat. The technique to pile up the standard height one by one is also seen on the four walls of a courtyard, and the number of layrs of bricks for the first and second floors is made consistent. As the wall height of 5.5 hat is the inside measurement of the wall for the first floor, it is clear that the cross section planning doubles a reqular square module of 5.5 hat. The consept of this cross section planning is estimated to true of Sundara Chok. On the other hand, in the floor planning of Mani Keshav Narayan Chok which succeeded to the structural system of Mul Chok and further reformed it, the standard measurement of Mul Chok is adjusted to the standard grid. The concept of standard grid is firmly recognized and is succeeded to the floor planning method of quadrangle architecture.
